The cave was important to me because I have some great memories of the cave from when we went camping at Natural Bridge when i was little. Unfortunately, sometime in the last 20 years they boarded up the cave, and we had to settle for a picture near the entrance. I was more than a little disappointed, but resolved that it wasn't going to ruin the rest of the day.
We hiked past balanced rock and eventually made it to the top of natural bridge. Success for one of my expectations! Here we are on top of the bridge squeezing into self-taken picture.
We continued along the trail on the other side until we got to the lookout spot (it's the flat rock thing you see above amy's head in the above picture). There we ran into a couple of other people and they took a picture of the three of us with natural bridge in the background.
We finished our way around the trail, tread carefully down a narrow, steep, wet, and leaf covered rock stairwell, had a picnic lunch, and headed back to the car.
Our next journey took us on a 30ish mile driving tour as described in mom's tourist book. It described occasional places to stop for lookouts or short hikes. We took one detour (as suggested by the book) about 4 miles down a gravel road, thankful that it was not peak season and therefore we didn't have to try to mass many cars going the opposite direction. When we arrived at the end of the gravel road we took two fun short hike. The first was to this lookout. It was a beautiful view and even more beautiful because the sun had come out.
Our second short hike took us to the top of "princess arch". I wanted to get to the bottom and this seemed like the most convenient way.
Amy explored further at the top and found a trail down. I convinced mom that she should let me help her over the edge. So we all ended up at the bottom and were able to take my favorite picture from the day.
