2010- in China- Went to KTV (karaoke) with a group of friends (mostly foreign) and then went to a restaurant. My one request was that we all sat at a big round table with a lazy susan thing for all the food. Everyone went around and said some memory about me. This served as a birthday celebration and kind of a goodbye shindig since I was preparing to move back to the states.
2009- in China- don't remember what I did on my actual bday, but the next week I left for a week of vacation in South Africa, which I pretty much considered a bday present to myself.
2008- first year in China- I was at my upstairs neighbors (where I ate dinner almost every night) and my roommate called to say something was broken (or something) in our apartment and I needed to come down. I got there, and lots of people were in my apartment with a cake to celebrate with me.
2007- in Poland- I had only been in Poland a couple weeks, so I took my birthday weekend to do some tourist things in Warsaw. The family I was living with had a cake for me, and my class sang Happy birthday to me using all of the languages from the home countries of the students in my class (United States, Poland, Korea, China, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Luxemburg)
2006- 21st bday! I had plans to go out to dinner with some friends. When we got there, I found more friends at the restaurant waiting for us. They had decorated the table and were all wearing kid bday hats. Afterwards we went back to my dorm room and played drinking games using sparkling cider (or something similar... going to a baptist school and being someone who lived by the rules, alcohol was not in the picture). My youth minister from home came up for my bday and surprised me by bringing my sister too.
2005- hmm, i'm sure i celebrated, not sure how
2004- first bday at college- My choir was in a big performance of Mendelssohn's "Elijah" that dad so my parents came up to CU to see that and brought a cake with I shared with friends in the common room of the dorm.
I remember what we did in 2009. We all went to I Love NY Pizza and had huge pizzas and you had multiple performances from Eli and John.
